This is a rare find - a deep burgundy haori from the Shōwa era (1950s-1970s) that works as two entirely different garments in one. One side is a rich dark red textured fabric, scattered with delicate shibori flower clusters in white - small rounded blooms with fine embroidered stems, accompanied by trails of tiny resist-dyed dots that drift across the surface like petals caught in a breeze. The other side reveals something bolder: a burnt orange-rust ground covered in large, sweeping shibori ovals in white and soft light blue. Shibori is a traditional Japanese resist-dyeing technique where fabric is bound before dyeing, and each side of this haori showcases a completely different expression of that craft - one quiet and botanical, one bold and painterly. Two haori in one, and either way you wear it, it's a piece that stops people in their tracks.
Layer it over your favourite outfit for an effortless finishing touch or use in a statement outfit.
Haori ties (haori himo) are included and are handmade from silk.
