This vintage Japanese folding fan (sensu) opens to a soft cluster of hydrangea blooms - ajisai - in blue, lavender and white, spread across a pale pleated leaf on a dark bamboo frame, likely from the late Showa era. In Japan the hydrangea is a flower of early summer and the rainy season, and a gentle symbol of heartfelt feeling. It comes with its own matching fabric cover in deep purple with a small red cord. Delicate and feminine, it is as pretty to display as it is to carry.
Slip it from its cover to cool down in style on a warm day, or keep it out as a small decorative piece.
