ABOUT OUR PRODUCTS

At CityZen, we specialise in authentic vintage Japanese garments that carry history, soul, and artistry. Our selections are handpicked in Japan and feature various types of kimonos, haoris, and nagajuban, each telling a unique story through its colours, craftsmanship, and character.

These garments were usually made to order, worn mostly on special occasions and cherished with care. Today, we give them a new life, blending traditional elegance with contemporary style. We wear them layered with everyday outfits - paired with denim, other trousers or a dress, for special occasions, as house robe, and even as beach wear.

All garments are loose-fitting and can comfortably fit on different body types. Please check each items sizing information.

Every piece inspires a personal and expressive way of wearing it.

Kimono

Traditionally used for ceremonies and celebration, the kimono has always been more than clothing - it is wearable art.

The kimono is long (typically around 155–170cm) and traditionally worn with two belts - an obi (wide belt) and an obi jime (a tie-type belt that is worn over the obi). We offer you a modern interpretation in which you wear your kimono open or with an obi jime to adjust the length to your height.

Please check the product details for each item's specific size information.

We offer tailoring services so the length can be adjusted to your preference and height for a small fee. If you’d like this service, please get in touch with us before purchasing.

Styled with modern outfits, it transforms moments into major memories.

Summer (Sheer) Kimono & Yukata

Traditionally worn during Japan’s warmer months, vintage summer kimono and yukata were created to offer comfort and elegance in the heat. True summer kimono are especially rare, as they were once a seasonal luxury, made only for those who could afford garments specifically designed for summer. They are light, often slightly sheer, and typically crafted from silk or linen, with many pieces hand-painted or hand-dyed.

Yukata, by contrast, are more casual and usually made from breathable cotton. Originally worn at summer festivals or as everyday summer wear, they offer an easy, relaxed alternative while still carrying the beauty of traditional Japanese design.

Today, both summer kimono and yukata lend themselves to modern life with ease. They can be worn at home like a lightweight robe, styled as resort wear over jeans or swimwear, or dressed up for warm evenings and special occasions—bringing a sense of quiet Japanese elegance into everyday moments, regardless of the season.

Summer kimono and Yukata are full-length, typically measuring between 155–170 cm (please refer to each product’s details for exact measurements). We offer tailoring services to adjust the length to your preference for a small additional fee. If you’d like to use this service, feel free to contact us.

Nagajuban (Inner Kimono)

Nagajuban is traditionally worn underneath the kimono. It is designed to protect the kimono and help the whole silhouette sit smoothly so the designs are often quietly beautiful, revealed only in movement: a private kind of elegance.

Nagajuban are made shorter than kimono, roughly in the 120–140cm range and usually don’t need tailoring - just style them as-is and shape the look with an obijime or any other belt.

At CityZen, we love wearing nagajuban as a piece in its own right: a lightweight gown for home, an easy layer over jeans in warmer weather, and even as beach or resort wear when you want something effortless but special.

Haori

Haori is a light jacket traditionally worn over kimono. Most of our vintage haori are made from silk, often with subtle woven patterns or hand-dyed / hand-painted / embroidered designs. They have have a beautiful lining and many can be worn double-sided.

Haori are made in a “one size fits many” approach and designed to be worn slightly loose. Usually the length is around 75–85cm with a generous width and wide sleeves that drape beautifully, They fit different body types - check each item for the specific measures.

At CityZen, we love them as everyday pieces that make every moment special: thrown over jeans and a T-shirt, layered with various outfits. They are easy to style and versatile - worn by both men and women.

Haori are traditionally worn open, but they can also be gently closed with haori himo - short decorative ties at the front. Some of our pieces still have their original himo attached by their previous owner, others come without them. If your chosen haori doesn’t have himo you can either wear it without it or you can order a pair from us.

Shibori Haori

Each shibori haori is a masterpiece born from patience and artistry. The fabric is folded, knotted, and tied by hand thousands of times before it is dyed - a process that can take months, sometimes close to a year. The result is a texture that feels alive, patterns that can never be repeated, and colours that create unique patterns. Once reserved for special occasions, it now becomes a statement layer in everyday life - wearable art carrying a story of dedication and beauty.

Oversized Haori (Men's Haori)

Originally created for men, on the outside they are understated - deep tones, clean lines, a sense of calm elegance. But inside, entire worlds unfold: hand-painted or printed linings that reveal landscapes, symbols, and stories once known only to the wearer.

Their larger size gives them a modern, flowing silhouette, making them versatile and striking for anyone. And because many can be worn inside-out, they transform into double-sided garments - one side minimal and strong, the other expressive and full of hidden artistry.
