A navy men's haori in a finely textured fabric, likely from the mid to late Showa era, around the 1960s to 1980s. Inside, the lining is a bright purple checkerboard, the pattern known as ichimatsu, named after an eighteenth-century kabuki actor who wore it on stage. On a man's haori the lining was where colour was allowed, kept out of sight beneath a plain outer cloth.
Throw it over jeans and a tee for an easy everyday look, or wear it as a light jacket to dress up a more formal outfit.
