This vintage Japanese folding fan (sensu) is a small and delicate, hand-painted paper fan on a natural bamboo frame, likely from the mid-to-late Showa era (around the 1960s-1980s). Its paper leaf is painted with a soft mountain-and-village scene - thatched houses tucked among pine trees, misty hills, and warm golden light falling across the paper. An artist's signature sits in the lower corner, in the spirit of traditional Japanese landscape painting. Petite and elegant, it opens into a quiet little world you can hold in your hand.
Carry it to stay cool on warm days, or open it out and display it as a small piece of art at home.
