This vintage Japanese folding fan (sensu) is a hand-painted paper fan on a bamboo frame, likely from the mid-to-late Showa era. Across its pale green leaf, a few brushstrokes conjure a riverside scene - slender bamboo leaning over the water and two small figures and a little boat - finished with the artist's red seal. Light and calming, it opens into a small landscape you can carry.
Carry it to stay cool on warm days, or open it out and display it as a small piece of art at home.
