This rich burgundy and multicolour ladies haori from the Showa period, somewhere around the 1950s-1960s, is made using a shibori technique - a traditional Japanese resist-dyeing method where thousands of tiny points of fabric are individually bound before dyeing, creating that characteristic speckled texture and unique tactile depth across the whole surface. The shibori creates large organic shapes in deep wine red, filled with a warm mix of gold, orange, pink and soft green dots that give the whole garment a jewel-like warmth and depth. The inner lining is a real surprise - cream silk printed with hyakunin isshu karuta, the famous Japanese classical poetry cards. Rich and warm on the outside, quietly literary on the inside - this is a haori with real character and story to tell.
Layer it over your favourite outfit for an effortless finishing touch or use as a jacket.
Haori ties (haori himo) are not included for this item but can be purchased separately.
