The charcoal-navy face is entirely without pattern. Inside, a pale grey lining carries a demon mask across the whole back - horned, wide-eyed and bared-toothed, most likely the hannya of noh theatre - built up from thousands of hundreds shibori knots. Shibori is a resist-dyeing technique in which the cloth is bound tightly before it goes into the dye, so the bound points stay pale.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe piece is double-sided.
